The rotator cuff comprises four scapular muscles that stabilize the Glenohumeral Joint and move the 🦴 humerus.
Muscles
- Origin: Supraspinous fossa of the Scapula
- Insertion: Superior facet of the greater tubercle of the 🦴 humerus
- Action: Abducts the 🦴 humerus; stabilizes the Glenohumeral Joint
- Origin: Infraspinous fossa of the Scapula
- Insertion: Middle facet of the greater tubercle of the 🦴 humerus
- Action: Laterally rotates the 🦴 humerus; stabilizes the Glenohumeral Joint
- Origin: Lateral border of the Scapula
- Insertion: Inferior facet of the greater tubercle of the 🦴 humerus
- Action: Laterally rotates and assists adduction of the 🦴 humerus; stabilizes the Glenohumeral Joint
- Origin: Subscapular fossa (anterior Scapula)
- Insertion: Lesser tubercle of the 🦴 humerus
- Action: Medially rotates and adducts the 🦴 humerus; stabilizes the Glenohumeral Joint
