Summary
Origins
- Lateral epicondyle of the 🦴 humerus
Insertions
- Extensor expansion of digit five
Actions
- Extends little finger
- Assists wrist extension
The extensor digiti minimi is a thin muscle on the ulnar side of the posterior forearm. It originates alongside extensor digitorum from the lateral epicondyle and sends a tendon to the little finger through the dorsal wrist.
The tendon merges with the extensor expansion of digit five, allowing the little finger to straighten. Working with extensor carpi ulnaris it can help extend the wrist, and it opposes the flexors of the little finger such as the flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor digitorum profundus.
