Origins

  • Proximal two-thirds of the lateral supracondylar ridge of 🦴 humerus

Insertions

  • Styloid processs of radius

Actions

  • Elbow flexion
  • Assists pronation and supination of the forearm when movements are resisted

The brachioradialis forms the lateral ridge of the forearm, spanning from the lateral supracondylar crest of the humerus to the distal radius. Its long belly bridges the arm and forearm, giving artists a clear contour that frames the extensor compartment.

It flexes the elbow best with the forearm in a neutral "hammer" grip, working alongside the biceps and brachialis while steadying the radius for the extensor carpi radialis longus and pronator teres. The muscle's ridge divides the extensor carpi radialis brevis from the flexor carpi radialis, a surface landmark for the opposing muscle masses.
