Bony Landmarks
Adductor tubercle
Small elevation on the medial epicondyle; insertion site for the hamstring part of 💪 Adductor Magnus.
Gluteal tuberosity
Roughened area on the posterior shaft just distal to the greater trochanter; insertion site for 💪 Gluteus Maximus.
Greater trochanter
Large lateral projection of the proximal femur; attachment site for 💪 Gluteus Medius, 💪 Gluteus Minimus, Piriformis, Obturator Internus, Obturator Externus, Superior Gemellus, and Inferior Gemellus.
Intertrochanteric crest
Ridge connecting greater and lesser trochanters on the posterior femur; the quadrate tubercle on this crest is where Quadratus Femoris inserts.
Lateral condyle
Distal lateral articular prominence; origin site for Gastrocnemius Lateral Head, Popliteus, and Plantaris.
Lesser trochanter
Posteromedial conical eminence below the neck; insertion point for Iliopsoas (psoas major and iliacus).
Linea aspera
Vertical ridge on the posterior shaft with medial and lateral lips; attachments for 💪 Adductor Brevis, 💪 Adductor Longus, the adductor part of 💪 Adductor Magnus, and origins of Vastus Lateralis and Vastus Medialis.
Medial condyle
Distal medial articular prominence; origin site for Gastrocnemius Medial Head.
Pectineal line
Oblique ridge running from the lesser trochanter toward the 📍 Linea Aspera; attachment site for Pectineus.
